Promoting economic growth and creating jobs

To achieve sustainable economic development, job and wealth creation opportunities must be generated close to local communities. The Mayor of London is committed to promoting economic growth within London, a departure from previous policies of dispersal. We have adopted a complementary strategy at the sub regional level and through doing so aim to encourage the creation of new jobs and opportunities within North London. The NLSA strongly believe that North London’s Sub-Regional Development Framework, which we will develop in partnership with the develop an effective strategy for advancing the development of the subregion’s key sites.

Opportunity areas

Across North London there are sites where significant development capacity exists. The most important regeneration zones are located along the Upper Lee Valley Development Corridor, at Haringey Heartlands, at Cricklewood / Brent Cross and at Walthamstow Town Centre. Realising the potential of North London’s land assets will be central to achieving our shared objective of focusing economic growth within the sub-region and contributing to London’s growth as a world class city.

  • We will work with the LDA to facilitate the development of the Upper Lee Valley.
  • We will work with the GLA to develop North London’s Sub-Regional Development Framework.
  • We will address retail pressure on industrial land through using the planning system to protect strategic sites.
