North London Submits Local Enterprise Partnership Expression of Interest – December 2010

In the summer of 2010, the Coalition government indicated that economic development at a sub regional level should be driven by new Local Enterprise Partnerships. The North London Strategic Alliance, in partnership with North London Business, has submitted a proposal for the formation of a London Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.

The London Anglia LEP, which will be business led and supported by public and private sector partners, covers an important part of London’s economy and parts of Hertfordshire and Essex. As a true cross regional LEP, the key purpose of the London Anglia LEP will be to support enterprise to grow the number of private sector jobs at all skill levels and to drive investment into the area to deliver sustainable regeneration by improving transport, increasing the supply of local jobs and providing good quality housing.

Commissioning Post 16 Learning in North London - February 2010

The NLSA has undertaken a review of north London's local authorities, colleges and regional partners to provide a ‘snapshot’ of views around the transfer of responsibility from the Learning & Skills Council to local authorities for commissioning post 16 learning by April 2010. A report outlining the conclusions of these interviews has now been published. Views were broadly positive about the process. Against this backdrop of ‘it’s all going well so far’ there where concerns that it may prove to be more problematic as the process rolls forward and difficult decisions need to be made in future years on what needs to be commissioned or de-commissioned. The coalition government subsequently decided not to transfer this responsibility to boroughs.
