NLSA

About the NLSA

The North London Strategic Alliance (NLSA) was established in 1999 as the sub-regional strategic partnership for North London and brings together public, private and voluntary sector organisations. The NLSA is politically led with a core membership made up of those local authorities which constitute the north London area.

The key purpose of the NLSA is to develop and articulate a clear vision for north London, and to provide the strategic leadership to ensure that the vision is realised.

The NLSA Business Plan: 2010-2013

The NLSA’s principle areas of work are sustainable communities, transport, economic development, shared services and worklessness. The NLSA Business Plan sets out the priorities and workplan for 2010-2013.

NLSA Partnership Protocol

The NLSA Partnership Protocol sets out the working arrangements of NLSA, including its function and internal structures.

Defining the North London Sub region

In a complex, closely connected and inter-related city such as London strict definitions of sub-regions are difficult and may be self defeating. The NLSA therefore works on the basis of ‘fuzzy boundaries’ with up to eight boroughs, a number of district and county councils outside London.

There is a long established core of north London boroughs: Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest. Within this there is a close working relationship between the Upper Lee Valley boroughs of Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest.

Over the past four years NLSA has worked to raise the profile of the London section of the London – Stansted – Cambridge – Peterborough growth corridor, which is made up of the six boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Hackney, Redbridge and Waltham Forest.

Finally the NLSA has an increasingly closer working relationship with Camden and Islington on shared issues such as transport, housing and tackling worklessness.
